Harry
Lynn Quartet
started the jazz
phenomenon that is
Jazz in The Basement
based at the Gold Coast Arts Centre Queensland, Australia, in June 2004.
Since then the band has accompanied
some of the best jazz performers available today - not only local talent -
but also those who are celebrated worldwide including jazz legends George
Washingmachine, Lynn Rogers, John Hoffman, Linda Weston, Clayton Davis,
Melissa Western, Max Miller, Tom Nicolson, Dinah Williams, Willy Qua,
Sandie White, Airstream, Ashley Lewis, and Australia's Queen
of Jazz Singers, Ingrid James.
Jazz in The Basement
has also provided many young Gold Coast jazz musicians, with the opportunity
to perform in front of a seasoned jazz audience in a professional
environment. The Gold Coast Youth Orchestra Big Band, under the direction of
Mal Wood, attracted one of the
largest crowds for 2005.
Another crowd-pulling performance
for 2005 was the "Battle of
the Saxes" with Lothar Schildhorst and Ian Aitken battling it
out on their saxophones for the very appreciative audience and also the "
Louis Armstrong Tribute" from Clayton Davis and Blaine Whittaker (from the
James Morrison Band) on saxophone.
Harry
Lynn (Piano/Keyboards), Peter McLaughlin (Bass) and Warren Whittaker
(Drums), and Mal Wood on Trumpet, make up the Harry Lynn
Quartet.
